Rav Sternbuch's comments about his opponents who tried to force him to change his halachic rulings

Recording of the original Yiddish

  1. This is a very interesting post, for reasons I have previously discussed.
However, all I wish to say on this occasion, is that it is very interesting how R' Shternbuch shlita, writes in modern Hebrew and even uses new Hebrew invented by secularists rather than using old middle ages rabbinic Hebrew.

Even the walls of Mea Shearim and Har Nof cannot completely shut out modern secular influence.

  2. @Eddie - I believe he spoke in Yiddish and then it was translated into Hebrew by someone else.

  4. Nice try but Rav Shternbuch was raised in Chutz La'aretz, not in Meah Shearim. He is more familiar with Modern Hebrew than he is middle age rabbinic hebrew.

Where is your proof of this? Many Jewish children raised in Chutz do not know modern Hebrew. Especially those that grew up in chareidi homes.

  6. Actually, i just read the jpeg. Its definitely "rabbinic hebrew", not modern. Substantial aramaic, etc.

Its the post above that's modern hebrew. I presume it comes from kikar shabat or similar site, which always write in a Ben yehudah Hebrew.

  10. How is what you call a "Ben Yehuda Hebrew" different than standard Ivrit?

  11. I understand he was for many years in Stamford Hill area of London, which is where i was born. I don't know if we were there at the same time.

  12. If the letter is translated into hebrew from Yidish, then my above claim only applies to the translator, But "ach v'rak" - as far as i know - is modern hebrew.

  14. Modern hebrew = Ben yehudah Hebrew.

Standard ivrit: is there a standard english? Queens english? American english? Southern California? New York english?
